The Storries V Review

The Storage Awards 2008

Tower Hotel, London - June 5th 2008

Now in its FIFTH year, The Storage Awards 2008 was by far our biggest event yet.

Over these 5 years, the storage industry has changed through new technology, larger capacities, innovation, regulatory changes and acquisition. The Storries V rewards companies at the forefront of these changes.

CMS Peripherals enjoying the Champagne Reception

For the FIFTH year running, ALL our previous records were broken with 400 attendees from the industries finest storage companies attending this years awards. Over 6000 Storage Magazine readers cast in excess of 25,000 votes.

The Storage Awards (The Storries V) 2008 is where individuals and organisations received industry wide recognition before an audience of their peers. The winners were elected by the readership of Storage Magazine – The UK’s number one IT storage magazine.

The evening started with a champagne reception (sponsored by Fujifilm), which really set the tone for the whole evening. All the technology in the world couldn’t get the guests seated by 8pm, as old friends mingled with new, in what has become the storage industry’s premier networking event. Dinner was finally served 40 minutes late!!

Fujifilm toast another succesful awards evening

After dinner came desert and the comedian / compere for the evening Hal Cruttenden who in difficult circumstances (they’re a tough crowd) still managed to make the audience laugh throughout his set.

The storage industry were not the only winners, our chosen charity, the Lords Taverners benefited from our guests generosity to the tune of £12,055 from a silent auction.

Once the auctions were finished, Hal was joined on stage by Stuart Leigh (Storage Magazine’s Publishing Director) and they rattled through the awards. The biggest winners of the evening Were NCE, Hammer, DataCore, Nexsan, EMC and NetApp winning two awards each, the latter scooping the coveted Company of the year award for the second time in three years. A full list of winners can be found by clicking here.

Easy (Software) does it

Once the Storage Awards were finished, and winners congratulated, the serious business of networking resumed and carried on until way after carriages at 1am, with highlights of the evening being a certain editor doing his best Mick Jagger impersonation on the dance floor, add that to normally reserved people ‘unwinding’ and more than a few hundred revelers ‘socialising’ late into the night!

A proper party, worthy of the storage industry. Well done to everyone for making this a special night – and, of course, to all of our winners, across all of the categories.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2009 Storage Awards, The Storries VI, where, once again, the readers of Storage magazine will reward the outstanding products and services for which our industry has become a byword.

And the winners are?

Storage Magazine would like to take this opportunity to thank the Storries V sponsors – CMS Peripherals, Fujifilm, Hammer & Symantec - with category sponsorship from AMCC, Easy Software, Emulex, EMC, Sun Microsystems and B2NET.
