From STORAGE Magazine Vol 6, Issue 9 - December 2006

Storage hardware is becoming more cost effective, while the volume of data that has to be stored is continually rising. but Don't worry - because Intel has a lot of great things happening in storage solutions right now!

The expansion of data storage requirements, and the resulting higher costs of managing storage, is growing at an ever increasing rate. Be it challenges with regulations or simply storing structured or unstructured data, historical and current, this problem for the end user represents an outstanding opportunity for our partners to expand their business horizons and attempt to help ameliorate the situation.

What do we offer?
Entry-level Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions are available. The Intel Entry Storage System SS4000-E is an easy-to-use, affordable NAS appliance, with intuitive, interactive tools that help you easily manage your organisation's fast-expanding data.
Powered by an Intel Xscale processor and support for up to 4 SATA hard disk drives, the SS4000-E provides a robust and secure storage solution, with the capability of system backup and recovery of client devices. It enables the use of RAID technology (Level 0, 1, 5 and 10), giving you data protection, as well as performance, through striping. It also provides complete system backup and recovery software. The result is that the SS4000-E can solve your storage needs.

GRID Storage for SMB
Storage Area Networks (SANs) are within reach! The Intel Storage System SSR212MA is an easy-to-use, affordable SAN storage system with intuitive, interactive tools that help you easily manage your company's fast-expanding data. With an Intel Xeon® processor, support for up to 12 SATA hard disk drives, and iSCSI connectivity, the SSR212MA provides a robust, flexible, scalable storage solution. It enables dynamic growth of data volumes, features an automated snapshot suite and allows for data replication across multiple locations - giving you high levels of data protection.

Rack Mount Storage
Server Building Block

Targeting the ongoing growth of data, and the need for availability and protection of storage, Intel Corporation recently announced a new storage server hardware platform that can be customised for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). System builders and integrators can couple the Intel Storage System SSR212CC with various software solutions to create NAS or SAN appliances.

The Intel Storage System SSR212CC is based on the Low Voltage Intel Xeon processor and supports up to 6 terabytes of data distributed across 12 Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives, allowing extra headroom for growth. This storage system also supports hardware-based RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50, making data more reliable and faster to access.

2U Server for SMB storage needs
The Intel Storage System SSR212PP networked storage system can support a maximum capacity of six terabytes in a single array. Offered in single- or dual-controller configurations, this easy-to-install storage system provides SMBs with advanced features and the security of redundant power and cooling functionality. It is available for iSCSI or Fibre Channel, for flexible direct attached storage (DAS) or SAN connectivity.
This is the latest in a recent series of collaborative activities between EMC and Intel. In March 2006 Intel and VMware, an EMC subsidiary, announced a broad collaboration to bring the benefits of virtualisation to enterprises and new market segments.

So what’s coming?
