HIGH-DEE-HIGH!

From STORAGE Magazine Vol 6, Issue 6 - July/August 2006

Ask many people what they did for the weekend and they'll probably say something like, 'shopping', 'pub', 'golf' or 'put my feet up'. Not Dee Brewer. She decided to throw herself out of a plane

Dee Brewer, operations and marketing manager of JCOM, enjoys a challenge in her spare time. In fact, she's something of a daredevil. That's why she threw herself out a plane from 10,000 feet!

But even Dee has her limits - wisely, she was hooked up to a parachuting expert. And now she's hooked on jumping, too, so expect to see her taking to the skies again soon from a cloud near you!

What was it like? "Not scary at all," Dee tells us. "It's a very strange experience, not what you'd expect it to be. I'm booking to do it again, I loved it that much. Plus I raised £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation, which is fantastic!"

Fantastic indeed - and much needed. Statistics show that, despite the falling death rate - largely as a result of healthcare advances - coronary heart disease is still the UK's single biggest killer, More than 270,000 heart attacks occur each year and, of these patients, about 43% die within 28 days of their heart attack. This gives some idea of the enormity of the task facing those health professionals involved in cardiac care.

"I lost my father due to heart disease when he was fifty-seven," says Dee. "That was after he'd suffered five heart attacks and undergone major heart surgery. Any sponsorship contributions received, however large or small, help the BHF to make incredible improvements in patient care, equipment, heart surgery, and the research and development of heart disease."
