The Storage Industry Awards (The 'Storries')

From STORAGE Magazine Vol 4 No 04 - July/August2004

The Storries took place at the Hotel Russell in London on June 17th. The aim of the awards was to recognise storage products & companies who, in the view of Storage Magazine readers, excelled in their particular field. The event was a big success and plans are already afoot for next years awards. The evening literally kicked off at 5pm in the hotel bar with a mixture of black tied and casually dressed members of the storage arena watching the emergence of a certain Mr. Rooney and a thumping 3-0 win to England!

That set the evening up nicely - 200 of the storage industries finest enjoying the champagne reception with a smile on their face. The evening started in earnest after dessert was served and Dave Lee (MBE), our comedian for the evening, did a 30 minute stand up set. Although close to the bone, Dave is a very funny man and one that is prepared to laugh at himself as well!

Our guest of honour, George Cohen (MBE) took centre stage with the Storage Awards host, Stuart Leigh. George not only recounted what it was like winning the world cup with England, he also presented the 16 awards. A true professional and a gentleman!

Some of the awards were won convincingly but one of the awards was so close that we had to count the votes THREE times before we could confirm who had won. The climax of the Storries was the Storage Company of the year, with StorageTek taking the award - narrowly beating off the challenge of Veritas and Softek Storage Solutions (formerly Fujitsu Softek).
Once the awards were finished, the entertainment turned to music, with the group Something Wicked playing a string of classics ranging from James Brown to The Jacksons, making way only for our DJ for the evening, who played into the early hours of the morning.

A good night was had by all - especially our winners of course, who are listed on the following pages. Well done to them - and we look forward to welcoming you all to the 2005 Storage Awards, where once again the readers of Storage Magazine will reward outstanding companies, products and services.
